How 5 minutes of daily Gratitude can help your family.

The change of seasons has brought with it a change of focus for me. Since the beginning of September I’ve found myself being drawn more and more towards the inner work of love, life and business.

This inner work is focused on two activities – Gratitude and Forgiveness.

Today I want to talk about Gratitude. Gratitude is so much more than remembering to say Thank You to the people around you for their contribution to your day to day living. It is about your mindset and perspective as you go about your life.

When we approach life with an attitude of gratitude we begin to notice significant shifts. It is easy to say Thank You for the good things. It is a lot harder, at first, to say Thank You for the more challenging aspects of life.

Gratitude for the hard stuff can be really difficult. There are plenty of things for which to say Thank You before you face life’s challenges with gratitude. At the beginning it is so against the grain of normal habit that it can seem almost ‘physically’ impossible.

Gratitude has remarkable effects.

Gratitude improves our health, relationships, emotions, personality, and career.

Gratitude makes us nicer, more trusting, more social, and more appreciative. As a result, it helps us make more friends, deepens our existing relationships, and improves our relationship with our children. (You can read more about the effects of Gratitude here).

Can you commit 5 minutes a day to saying Thank You?

Can you do this for 7 days?

5 Minute Gratitude Ritual

Grab some paper or a journal.

Start writing out things you are grateful for, “Thank you for my house, thank you for my children and my dog, thank you for living in a war-free country, thank you for regular money into my bank account, thank you for my neighbours…” You get the idea!

Allow your brain and pen do the work together without thinking too hard. You might be surprised about what you begin to be grateful for.

Once you’re done, read it out loud to yourself with the emotion of gratitude.

Notice how great it feels!

Here’s my challenge to you – spend 7 days doing this daily 5 minute Gratitude Ritual and then let me know what changes you’ve noticed.

I am so excited about how this is going to impact your relationship with your children, with yourself and with life in general.

Are you up for the challenge?
